Three Peruvian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have been selected as finalists for Desafío Google 2017 (Googles Impact Challenge), an initiative that seeks to support non-profits in five countries across Latin America; Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Mexico.
Out of 15 selected NGOs from the region, three have been selected as finalists from Peru for the Google Challenge. Each will receive US$ 350,000 and advice for the implementation of their social innovation projects that use technology.
The public will now vote online to decide which top five companies – one from each country – will participate in the regional Google Challenge final in Mexico, where they will receive an additional US$150,000.
Desafío Google 2017, is the regional version of Googles #GoogleOrg Challenge, designed to support the top social innovation projects that have scalability, viability and that use technology and innovation to impact their community.

Movimiento Peruanos Sin Agua (Peruvians Without Water Movement)
The Peruvian Sin Agua movement is an integrated system for collecting water from fog and groundwater. Unique for its low cost, it is allowing the entire community to access this resource for not only consumption, but organic agriculture development and farming. With 3.8 million Peruvians lacking access to potable water, the system will allow access to potable water, and decrease malnutrition in the area by improving farming.
Asociación para la Conservación de la Cuenca Amazónica – ACCA (Amazon Basin Conservation Association)
The ACCA innovative project uses state of the art satellite technology to prevent deforestation in the Amazonian forests of Peru. Through the use of satellites, unmanned aerial vehicles and smartphones, it allows real-time monitoring and avoiding logging and illegal invasions of miners and farmers, helping to protect 1 million hectares of tropical forest.
Asociación para el Mejoramiento de la Educación Básica de Piura – Proyecto MAMÁ (Association for the Improvement of Basic Education in Piura – Project MAMA)
MAMA 2.0 project is a system that promotes the care of mother and child through text and voice messages, in both Spanish and native languages. It is a simple yet effective project aimed to reduce mortality rates during pregnancy and improve the health of more than 7 thousand mothers and their children. It is targeting mostly marginalized communities where almost 30% of children under 12 months are not receiving basic vaccines or being breastfed.
