At least 10 dead in central Peru truck accident

By July 10, 2015

At least 10 people were killed and 40 injured when a truck fell from a rural highway in Peru’s central state of Junin last night.

The truck was transporting 80 maca workers when it ran off the road and fell over 250 feet last night between the towns of La Oroya and Tarma in the Yauli and Tarma provinces.

Given the timing of the accident, first responders’ efforts were hampered by the lack of light.

At least two children were killed in the accident. Survivors were transferred to hospitals in La Oroya and Tarma. As of this publication, some victims are still trapped inside the us.
