Peru to promote tourism marketing in India

Peru will be going to an unlikely, but potentially valuable market to promote tourism to the Andean country. Representatives from Peru’s tourism industry will be at a tourism event in India called South Asia’s Leading Travel Trade Show (SATTE 2019) from January 16 to 18.

Six tourism officials from the Peruvian Association of Receptive and Internal Tourism Operators (Apotur) and Peru’s Commercial Office (OCEX) will be heading to New Dehli looking to ultimately bring tourism revenue back to Peru.

Peru businesses on hand at the event will be Setours, Viajes Pacifico, Solmartour, Travel Group, Lima Tours and Coltur.

“They see Peru as an attractive tourism operation and it’s hoped to increase the flow of visitors from India to Peru,” an official statement from Apotur read of the Indian market potential.

In 2017, when Indian travelers came to South America, they concentrated their visits to Argentina, Ecuador and Brazil. In those visits, according to Peruvian tourism officials, they spend upwards of $1,000 per traveler.

More than 31,000 buyers and businesspeople will be present at the 2019 SATTE. Around 50 countries and 1,000 industry stands will also be on hand.

This year, the number of Indian tourists to Peru increased by 37 percent compared from 2017. The rate has increased every year since 2015 when more than 5,600 Indian tourists came to the country.
