By September 29, 2015

A bus fell from a rural mountain highway in southern Peru this morning, killing at least 10 and injuring 16.

The bus carrying 40 passengers was traveling from Cusco to Nazca when it ran off the road near the city of Puquio in Ayacucho state, falling over 1,000 feet.

Injured passengers were transferred to hospitals in Ica. Some passengers claim the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

The same highway saw a similar accident six months ago. Just three miles from this morning’s accident, 21 died and 39 were injured when a bus fell over 2,600 feet from the mountain road.
